Green business creation: what trends in 2021?

4 promising markets for the creation of an ecological business

The global market for the environment and ecology is not homogeneous. It is broken down into four sectors, each of which is regulated by a different legal and fiscal context.

The renewable energies and energy renovation markets have benefited from favorable tax incentives for the past fifteen years.

The waste and water treatment markets are subject to strict regulations , resulting in particular from the Paris Conference during COP21.

1- The renewable energy market

This market includes heat pumps, solar, but also wood heating. It is the latter in particular that can represent interesting opportunities for anyone wishing to create a green business.

Indeed, according to the Observatory of Renewable Energies, “fifteen years after its arrival on the national market, pellet is now the benchmark wood fuel, especially for individuals “.

The wood heating market weighs more than 500 million euros per year.

This success is maintained by an incentive tax policy and the energy regulation called RT2020 , for thermal regulation 2020. It imposes standards in terms of insulation of new buildings.

2- The energy renovation market

The new is not the only part of the building sector affected by a tightening of the regulations in force. Indeed, energy-intensive housing, those called “ thermal strainers” will be banned for rental on January 1, 2023.

Homes for which the DPE, the energy performance diagnosis, stipulates that they consume more than 450 kWh / m² will be considered as “thermal strainers”.

To support owner-lessors in financing work to bring them up to standard and also owner-occupants, the energy transition tax credit (CITE) has gradually evolved into MaPrimeRénov ‘ . This system is endowed with 7.5 billion euros . It is part of the recovery plan for the ecological transition which weighs, for its part, 30 billion euros in total.

Other even more restrictive bills are being studied for 2028, in order to be able to honor France’s commitments in terms of energy savings.

Thus, given this information, this market has very strong growth potential. The latter is estimated at 14 billion euros per year for the next thirty years.

3- The waste treatment market

For someone interested in building a green business, one needs to closely study the area of the waste treatment market. And in particular the treatment of waste from the construction sector.

First of all, construction is the leading producer of waste in France. They represent 67% of the global volume. Consequently, their treatment and recycling are therefore an important issue in the waste market. Its total business volume is estimated at 23 billion euros.

4- The water treatment and sanitation market

This market of 145 million euros is more confidential than the previous ones. But it has some interesting advantages.

Competition is less strong there. And great opportunities may arise, especially in non-collective sanitation in rural areas.

Is it possible to create an ecological business under a franchise?

Many franchise networks exist in these markets. Since they are promising and innovative, the first entrepreneurs in these sectors have gradually developed franchise networks.

Of course, it is possible to start alone, without belonging to a network of retailers. But for a new entrepreneur, the advantages offered are undeniable : communication already established by the parent company, notoriety acquired, typical store layout…
They deserve to be carefully studied.
